As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Originality of the article . The submission is an original text that has not been published previously (partially or completely) and is not being reviewed by another scientific publication.
  • Compliance with formal criteria . The submission meets all of the following formal criteria of the Journal:
    • An A4 size document shall be presented, with double spacing, Arial Font and 12 pt.
    • The total number of words in the text will be between 5000 and 7,500. In this computation are considered the references and the tables, as well as the summary and the keywords. Particular attention will be paid to ensuring that the information corresponding to the abstract and the keywords is of the highest quality and follows an organized structure in accordance with good academic practices.
    • The paper's abstract includes in English and Indonesian, with a maximum of 250 words as well as 6 keywords in two languages.
    • The main document should NOT include the names of the authors. All metadata identifying the author will be removed from the document.
  • Compliance with structural criteria . The submission of the paper meets all the structural elements established by the Journal:
    • The structure of the article must follow the IMRaD model: Introduction, Material and Methods, Results and Discussion.
    • If the results presented have been obtained through a project financed by public, private or mixed funds, the full reference to the project has been expressly indicated.
    • Any acknowledgements should be included at the end of the document after the conclusions.
    • The instructions have been followed to ensure anonymity both in text and in the metadata of the files.
    • Notes should be included at the end of the document between Acknowledgements and References.
    • If the paper is not presented in the required structure, you must state and justify the reasons for not using the aforesaid structure in a cover letter.
    • Reviews shall be submitted in the following structure: Heading, body of the review, subheading (abstract or highlights of the review), signature (name and surname of the author of the review), and membership details.
  • Compliance with bibliographic criteria . The submission follows the Journal’s bibliographical reference standards:
    • All bibliographical references shall follow the publication standards of Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition  (Author-Date). 
    • Articles shall contain a DOI number is if they have one. It has been consistently proven that those not indicated are because they do not. 
    • Shortened URLs have been used in cases where the reference is available online and does not have DOI
    • References have been included in the metadata including a line break between them to facilitate automated extraction
  • Fully completed author profile. All authors have fully completed their profile in all three languages of the journal, including:
    • Current affiliation information (linked to the place where the research was carried out) following the scheme: Full name of the institution (Acronym), for example: Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU)
    • ORCID identifier, following the complete URL scheme, for example: http://orcid.org/0000-0003-1102-3144
    • Bibliographic summary around 100 words, following the scheme Recommended: Full affiliation [position, name of the group (if applicable), or department (if applicable), center or institute (full name and acronym, if any), institution on which it depends, postal address, city, and country. Contact email]. Main research line / s. Remarkable reference of projects and publications.
  • Fully completed metadata . All metadata of the article have been completed, in all two languages (English and Indonesia) following the indications established in the publication rules..
  • Compliance with Code of Ethics . The author / s subscribe with their submission the Code of Ethics of the publication Berkala Arkeologi Sangkhakala based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and Council of Science Editors (CSE) Editorial policy statements.
  • Availability of research data . The availability of all the basic materials and resources that have been used for the development of the research and the results obtained, as detailed in the publication standards, has been indicated and cited, where appropriate.

Initial Considerations

In order to facilitate the editorial process and to comply with the rigorous publication standards followed by Berkala Arkeologi Sangkhakala, it is fundamental that the submissions made by the authors are subject to the following publication guidelines. Items that do not meet all of them will be rejected.

Basic criteria

  • Compliance with the Code of Ethics . Authors who submit originals to the journal must subscribe to international ethical code of authors for the realization of responsible scientific publications. In the event that any of the circumstances envisaged in said code occurs, and indicated in the "About" section, the authors must make it appear in the "Comments for the editor" field of the submission.
    To comply with international standards of good research practices, in cases where the research carried out includes research with human beings and/or their personal data such as observational, psychological or behavioral research in humans, participation of students pending evaluate by any of the researchers in the project, use of personal or similar data, the researchers must have the favorable certification of good practice issued by the Research Ethics Committee of the institution in which the study was carried out.
  • Originality of the article . All submitted materials must be original (not published - not in another language - or in the process of being reviewed in other journals), and written in Spanish, English or Portuguese. For these purposes, work previously published in conference proceedings or dissemination platforms will not be considered unpublished and will be rejected. In the case of originals that derive from academic works as doctoral theses, the authors must indicate this circumstance, for their evaluation, in the field of "Comments for the editor" of the submission process.
  • Participation of the authors . All authors who signed the article must have made a substantive participation in the development of the research according to the criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) considering that:
    Each author is expected to have made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis or interpretation of data; o the creation of new software used at work; or that you have written the work or made a substantial review. In addition, you have approved the submission of the submitted version (and any substantially modified version that involves the author's contribution to the study). Also that you agree to be personally responsible for the contributions themselves and those of the authors and ensure that issues related to the accuracy or completeness of any part of the work, including in which the author was not personally involved, were properly investigated, resolved and the resolution was documented in the literature.
    Consequently, the authorship will correspond to one or more of the roles defined by the CRediT of CASRAI project.
    The signature order will follow the model of the SDC approach (Sequence Determines Credit), so that the first author is the one who has made the most relevant contributions to the investigation, and the rest appear successively on the right indicating decreasing contributions.
  • Time between posts . The same author, regardless of the place he occupies in their relationship, may not publish more than one article in the same volume or in the next. Texts received in periods less than these two years will not be sent for review.
  • Language and translation.. The article must be writte in one of the following accepted languages: Spanish, English or Portuguese.
    In the event that the article submitted in Spanish or Portuguese is accepted for publication, once the final revision of the original text in the submitted language has been made, the authors must submit a version translated into English. To guarantee the quality of the translation, according to the standards required in the international sphere, it must be signed by a translator or company that has ISO 17100 norm or homologous recognition.
    Although Journal Berkala Arkeologi Sangkhakala does not carry out or manage the translation, the following is a list of translation companies that have such certification in case they help authors: AGESTRAD , Tridiom , Start , Aje , Trágora.
    The authors will have 15 days to deliver the translation.
  • Authors information . All authors must complete their profile in all the three languages of the journal, including:
    • Current affiliation information (linked to the place where the research was conducted) following the scheme: Full name of the institution (Acronym), for example: Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM)
    • ORCID Identifier , following the complete URL scheme, for example: http://orcid.org/0000-0003-1102-3144
    • Bibliographic summary of about 100 words, following the recommended scheme: Full affiliation [position, name of the group (if applicable), or department (if applicable), center or institute (full name and acronym , if it exists), the institution it depends on, postal address, city, and country. Contact email]. Main research line / s. Remarkable reference of projects and publications.
      When you belong to an institution, the mail consigned in profile should be the one in it.
  • Article metadata . All metadata of the article must be completed in the corresponding section of the submission, in the three languages ​​(Spanish, English and Portuguese) following the indications established in the publication rules. It is very important that during the shipping phase this information is completed correctly, since otherwise, the item will be returned and a new shipment must be made.
    In the event that the research is funded by a support agency or a private entity, it is mandatory to state the complete reference (Project title, Funding entity / s, Program or call, Reference) within the metadata section " Support agencies ". Also, in the case of an investigation funded by an EU project that has a ProjectID OpenAIRE or is part of the initiative Funding Data of Crossref, the reference must be included in the metadata section enabled for this purpose with the agency search engine that integrates the updated information in Funder Registry . In the event that the research has been self-funded, this section of metadata should indicate "self-funded."
